Quinary Money Addition Question

This page presents you with a problem in quinary addition. The sum of the addends is between decimal 2 and 124, inclusive. As an aid, the values will be represented as quarters, nickels, and pennies and the addition will be animated. You can regulate the speed of the animation.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR

  • The quinary problem is on the left. Its solution will be shown at the end of the simulation.
  • Each quinary digit is represented by a number of coins, based on the place value of the digit.
  • The base 10 equivalent of each quinary number is also represented as dollars and cents.
  • The Simulation
    1. The coins will be added, one column at a time, moving from right to left. Simultaneously, the money sum will be increased.
    2. When a set of five or more coins appears in the sum, it is backgrounded in gold.
    3. When a carry is performed, the set of five will disappear, and a coin (backgrounded in gold) will be added to the column to the left.
